Royal Captures Lead Early to Defeat Oak Park Junior Varsity Eagles
Oak Park Junior Varsity Eagles watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 13-0 loss to Royal on Thursday. Royal scored on a double by Ryan Yofan in the first inning, a sacrifice fly by Rodney Sabbe in the first inning, a single by Gabriel Flores in the second inning, and a sacrifice fly by David Laranjo in the second inning.
The Oak Park Junior Varsity Eagles struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Royal, giving up 13 runs.
Royal got things started in the first inning when Yofan doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
One bright spot for Oak Park Junior Varsity Eagles was a single by Griffin Hurley in the fourth inning.
Sabbe was the winning pitcher for Royal. The fireballer lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero. Caden Salazar and Matthew Nutt entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
